Meet Mark - Our new Microscope Expert!

We are excited to welcome Mark Perkins to the Appleton Woods Team. Mark is joining us as our newly appointed Microscopy Sales Specialist ! He also recently completed his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Nottingham!

How would you describe yourself in 3 words Mark

Kind, compassionate & competitive

How has your first few weeks at AW been?

They’ve been great! I’ve been gradually getting to grips with a new and exciting challenge after finishing my PhD.

What kind of things do you like to do in your spare time?

I attempt to play football every week, but I might have to accept I’m too old to go pro. Other than that, I read sci-fi/fantasy books and watch TV. I also listen to a wide range of podcasts (true crime, aliens/occult, NFL & football), listen to a lot of music, and eat & drink interesting food and beer.

How do you feel you are settling within the team?

Really well I think! Everyone has been so welcoming; it really feels like I’ve joined a big family.

5. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!

I am a co-host of a Bereavement group for 18–35-year-olds. It’s been hugely important for me personally and it is rewarding seeing it help others.

6. So I see you are into microscopes, what is your fave one and why?

That’s a tough one because they’re all great, but I’d say the stereomicroscope – they’re super simple to use and let’s you magnify big objectives to see their fine details.

7. Are you binge watching any new series right now!

My partner and I have been powering through Criminal Minds over the past few months, and I binge-watched all of Hannibal before I started at AW (I had some weird dreams after that series!)

8. What’s your favourite Aw product and why?

The appPETTE – being able to lock in the volume is ingenious!

9. Tell us about your favourite holiday/event!

While at college we went on a biology trip to Vietnam, South Korea, and The Philippines. Outside the humidity and heat, it was amazing to experience different cultures and trek through rainforests.

10. Where do you see yourself in 3 years within the company?

An integral part of the team and a regular Friday morning Quiz winner!

I am pleased to support Appleton Woods partnership with ZEISS. I recently purchased from Appleton Woods a ZEISS Axiolab 5 compound microscope with a range of bright field and phase contrast objectives and a camera attachment. The service has been excellent. This included a prompt home demonstration by a very knowledgeable representative who also provided some very practical advice with regards to ZEISS objectives.
