SUCCESS FOR APPLETON WOODS AND MANCHESTER BIOGEL AT LAB INNOVATIONS 2021!

The team at Appleton Woods were keen to attend ‘Lab Innovations’, the UK’s largest annual trade show for all things Science and Research – after a year of uncertainty there was finally some light at the end of the tunnel! We were excited to be meeting customers again, some old faces and some new, and to exhibit several new and innovative products.

Appleton Woods partnered with a number of key suppliers, including the leading microscopy company, ZEISS, who have been designing and manufacturing microscopes since 1846. Also on the stand were new company Manchester Biogel with their range of Peptide Hydrogels.

On hand was our Microscopy Specialist, Dr Mark Perkins, who guided visitors through the key features of the microscopes on our stand, with images visible on the big screen.

Mark said, This year we had two ZEISS microscopes, the Axiolab 5 and Axio Vert.A1, on display. We aimed to showcase the interesting features of both the microscopes and cameras. On show were the ECO mode built into the Axiolab 5 and Axio Vert.A1, which aims to reduce on energy usage; and the Wi‑Fi adaptor to allow the camera to connect wirelessly to a tablet.”

UK based Manchester Biogel are redefining cell culture for Life Sciences with their new Peptide Hydrogels, ‘Peptigel.’ These are optimised for 3D bioprinting and are regularly used in tissue regeneration and drug discovery, and are free of animal products!

The two days of the show were very busy and there was a real buzz of excitement amongst visitors to our stand (possibly helped by our ‘free dougnuts’ offer!) Scientists were eager to discuss many of the products on display, including those from our ‘Appleton’ range. There was a lot of interest in the appPETTE range of single- and multi-channel pipettors; Appleton centrifuge tubes in the new eco-friendly cardboard racks, and the appCYCLE – pioneering the way for lab waste recycling.

As Day 2 drew to a close, customers and exhibitors gathered around the Awards Pavilion to find out who had won this year’s awards. The Appleton Woods team were elated following the announcement that they had, for the second event in a row, won the award for the ‘Most Impactful Emerging Technology’. Last time this was for the state-of-the-art BioEcho kits which allows a significant reduction in plastic usage in molecular biology workflows and this time, for the synthetic ‘Peptigels’ from partners Manchester Biogel.

Commenting on the victory, Jess Hutchinson from Manchester Biogel said, “We are so pleased that our Peptide Hydrogel technology has been recognised as the ‘Most Impactful Emerging Technology’ at Lab Innovations 2021! Well done team!”

Appleton Woods is proud to have shared this prestigious win with the Manchester Biogel team as the product is truly innovative and looks to change the course of cell culture for those who are serious about going ‘animal free.’
