Inside LEEC: A Visit to See Their Energy Saving Drying Cabinets!
We recently visited LEEC, a UK manufacturer with a long history of building reliable laboratory equipment. While many people know them for their mortuary products, we were particularly interested in their drying and warming cabinets.
The newest range, the Eco Drying Cabinets, are much more energy efficient than earlier models, using around 50% less energy. The largest units perform even better, saving up to two thirds compared to the older versions. Improved insulation allows the units to hold a steadier temperature internally, as well as resulting in less heat emission into the room, reducing the need for air conditioning.
How LEEC Builds Trust in Their Products
Something that stood out to us was LEEC’s approach to testing. Instead of checking products in batches, every single unit is tested individually for seven days before leaving the factory. This gives customers confidence that their cabinet will work as expected from day one.

Sustainability at the Heart of Operations
LEEC keeps its operations local. All products are made in the UK, using raw materials sourced in the UK too. This avoids long-distance shipping and reduces the overall carbon footprint. The company also recycles material offcuts, has switched to LED lighting throughout the offices and factory, and uses simple but effective energy saving features like controller switches to cut power use.
Customer Stories We Did Not Expect!
One of the most enjoyable parts of our visit was hearing how customers use LEEC cabinets in ways you might not imagine.
• Theatre companies have used glassware drying cabinets to dry wigs and costumes between performances!
• Motorola, during a busy period, placed circuit boards in a drying cabinet to speed up manufacturing.
• Breweries have used them to dry hops before brewing.
• Even the Formula 1 world has put them to work in their fast-paced environment.
Looking Ahead
LEEC is not standing still. They shared news that a new CO₂ incubator is in development, something to keep an eye on for the future.
Emily Mann at Appleton Woods says: "Watching the manufacturing process from start to finish was amazing, from a sheet of metal to the powder painting of the completed unit. It truly highlights the care and precision that goes into each unit. We look forward to all the new innovations LEEC have to offer soon!"
Our time at LEEC showed us a company that focuses on quality, sustainability and real-world usefulness. Their products are built carefully, tested thoroughly and often end up being used in surprising and creative ways.
