Dr Stewart Sale, our Reagent Product Specialist, was meant to be running an 24hr ultra-marathon in June raising vital money for a Midlands based cancer charity he is a Patron for – Edgar’s Gift (www.edgarsgift.org.uk) – however, like many other events it was cancelled due to the COVID19 lockdown.
Instead of just postponing his fundraising efforts to a later date Stewart decided to run his own “virtual” race to mark the event and on Saturday 20th June ran 50 miles in just under 9 hrs 30 minutes so that donations could still be made to the charity.
Edgar’s Gift is a charity that supports young adults with cancer between the ages of 18-30. The charity provides wishes and holidays to individuals to help them during their cancer treatment. Due to the coronavirus crisis times have been tough and the charity has been unable to complete some of the fundraising events which has impacted on the number of wishes the charity can fund. In addition, holidays offered to families at its static caravan on the east coast of Lincolnshire have all had to be cancelled due to the holiday park and associated facilities being closed. That is why it is so critical that donations are still made to the charity to make sure they can continue to support people in need.
Appleton Woods wanted to support Stewart’s efforts by not only donating individually amongst its staff but also wanted to fund a “wish” as a company so has agreed to make an additional donation towards the fundraising total.
Appleton Woods’ MD, Chris Brown commented, ‘ We are all really impressed with Stewart’s personal effort to raise money for Edgar’s Gift, a charity he has a long history of raising money for, and we wanted to contribute as a team. Congratulations to Stewart on completing 50 miles, and good luck with the fund raising!’
